As part of the U.N. General Assembly meeting, poor coastal countries asked for financial aid to combat the ravaging effects of rising oceans and stronger storms. Over 95 percent of the world’s scientists have concluded these climate changes are the direct result of the consumption of fossil fuels. We can address this issue proactively by imposing a carbon fee to curb greenhouse emissions.
The Creator intended for humankind to be part of nature, not separate from it. Pope Francis’ message that we all must care for our planet is consistent with Catholic theology and couldn’t be more germane. We must take action now. Remember, Christ says, what you have done for the least of my brethren, you have done to me.
