Regis Falls After Winning Intersectional Soccer Crown

A historic season came to a disappointing end as Regis High School of Manhattan lost 2-1 in overtime to Chaminade High School of Mineola in the CHSAA AA state boys soccer championship match at St. John’s University Nov. 12.

Liam Nicholson scored the goal for Regis, and Andrew Ceonzo stopped six shots in goal for the Raiders.

Regis (19-6-3 overall) enjoyed the most successful season in program history by winning its first CHSAA AA intersectional championship, competing in its first state final and winning its first archdiocesan championship since 2002.

St. Peter’s Boys High School 3, John F. Kennedy Catholic High School 2 – Dave Rocco scored two goals, including the game-winner with 12 minutes remaining, as St. Peter’s captured the CHSAA City A championship at SUNY Maritime Nov. 12.

Mike Giannino scored on a penalty kick to tie the match at 2-2 and assisted on Rocco’s two goals for St. Peter’s of Staten Island (17-2-3), which won the program’s first city championship in 11 years. Goalie Guiseppe Antonacci made 10 saves.

Mount St. Michael Academy 3, All Hallows High School 1 – Jaime Carillo finished with a goal and two assists for Mount St. Michael of the Bronx in the CHSAA City B championship match at SUNY Maritime Nov. 12.

Solomon Castro and Jordan Wilson each had a goal for the Mountaineers, who received seven saves in goal from Tajae Byrd McClean in winning the program’s third city championship.
