Rule of Law

Posted

To the Editor:

The Church rightly insists that it is unfair of those who accuse it of being opposed to “stem cell research” without noting the distinction between fetal and adult stem cells. Yet some Church leaders feel free to disapprove of those who object to “immigrants” without acknowledging the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants.

I am fairly certain that no one seriously proposes that this country, or any country remove all border controls in the spirit of “welcoming strangers.” This being the case, there must be immigration laws and, if we are a nation that believes in the rule of law, they should be followed. Saying that in no way diminishes the importance of immigrants to the founding and development of the country. Without legal immigration there would be precious few citizens of the United States of America.
