Sheen Center Staging New York Opening of ‘Sister Calling My Name’

Blackfriars Repertory Theatre and the Storm Theatre will present a new production of Buzz McLaughlin’s drama “Sister Calling My Name” at the Black Box Theater of the Sheen Center for Thought and Culture, 18 Bleecker St., Manhattan, Jan. 24-Feb. 16. Opening night of the play, making its New York premiere, is set for Thursday, Jan. 30.

The play, directed by Peter Dobbins and featuring Susie Duecker, John Marshall and Gillian Todd, is about a brother’s reluctant reunion with his developmentally disabled sister, who has become an extraordinary artist. His discovery that his sister’s guardian, a nun, is someone he knew from his past triggers an emotionally charged encounter that leaves all three forever changed.

Performances are Thursday-Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 p.m., with a special 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 17. Tickets: $35, available at Sheen Center.com, (212) 925-2812 or at the box office.
