Sister Agnes O’Grady, R.S.M.

Sister Agnes O’Grady, R.S.M., who served at Mercy College and at several archdiocesan schools, died May 23 at the Lankenau Medical Center, Philadelphia. She was 87.

She was treasurer at Mercy College, Dobbs, Ferry, 1963-1970, and was financial officer at Rockland Community College, 1970-1972.

She taught at Our Lady of Victory Academy, Dobbs Ferry, 1992-1993; St. Catharine Academy, the Bronx, 1958-1959; and Our Lady of Victory Academy, Tarrytown, 1952-1954.

Sister Agnes, formerly Sister Mary Joel, was part of the Sisters of Mercy Leadership Team, 1971-1974 and 1984-1992.

She also served as an officer of the Leviticus Fund, 1993-1999; as secretary-treasurer of Mercy Consolidated Asset Management, 1999-2001; and as chairwoman of the board of directors of Our Lady of Victory and St. Catharine academies, 2001-2005.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950 and professed final vows in 1955.

She earned a master’s degree in education from Mercy College and a master’s in business administration from Notre Dame University.

A Funeral Mass was offered on May 31 at Marian Woods Chapel, Hartsdale. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
