Sister Alberta Carey, S.C., who served at the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx for seven years, died May 15 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the Bronx. She was 86.
Sister Alberta was an associate professor of nursing at Mount St. Vincent, 1977-1984. She also served at the Convent of Mary the Queen, Yonkers, 2006-2008; St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center, Manhattan, 2003-2006; Bronx Psychiatric Center, the Bronx, 1998-2003; New York State Department of Health, New Rochelle, 1992-1998; Health Research, Inc., New York State, 1990-1992; College of Staten Island, 1989-1990; Incarnation Children’s Center, Manhattan, 1988-1989; Archdiocesan Substance Abuse Ministry, Manhattan, 1984-1988; and St. Joseph Medical Center, Yonkers, 1975-1976.
Born on Staten Island, Sister Alberta entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1975 and professed her final vows in 1981. Prior to the Sisters of Charity of New York, she served in the Franciscan congregation for 15 years.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from D’Youville College, Buffalo; and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from New York University, Manhattan.
Her sister, Lauretta Conniff, survives her.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 20 in St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial followed in St. Peter Cemetery, Staten Island.
