Sister Amy Pomponio, R.S.H.M.

Sister Amy Pomponio, R.S.H.M., who served in Colombia for 21 years, died May 11 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 85.

Sister Amy was stationed in Colombia, 1972-1983, serving on missions and as a teacher. She taught at Gerard School, Manhattan, 1954-1956, and also served in Brooklyn, Queens, Suffolk County and Richmond, Va.

She resided at Marymount Convent since 2004.

Born in South Plainfield, N.J., she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1951 and professed final vows in 1958.

She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Marymount College, Tarrytown.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 17 at Marymount Convent, followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
