Sister Catherine Lillis, P.B.V.M., who was a guidance counselor and teacher, died Jan. 11 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, CNY has learned. She was 89.

She taught at Mount St. Mary College, Newburgh, 1965-1972 and 1981-1999; Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, 1978-1981; and SUNY New Paltz, 1972-1975.

She was a guidance counselor at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, 1979-1981.

She taught at St. Michael’s Academy, Manhattan, 1950-1955, and Holy Rosary School, the Bronx, 1945-1950.

She was registrar at Mount St. Mary College, Newburgh, 1983-1986.

She served her community as a member of the leadership council, 1971-1975, and was vice president of the New Windsor congregation, 1975-1979.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1943 and professed final vows in 1948.

She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College, and a master’s and doctorate in psychology, both from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 14 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Windsor, with burial in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
