Sister Dorothy Emanuel, S.C., a longtime educator in the archdiocese, died April 19 at Kittay House in the Bronx. She was 90.

Sister Dorothy taught at Cathedral High School, Manhattan, 1964-1979. She also taught at Grace Institute, Manhattan, 1983-1986; St. Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, 1958-1962; St. Sylvia School, Tivoli, 1957-1958; and SS. Peter and Paul, the Bronx, 1950-1957. She also taught at schools in Brooklyn and York, Pa.

Sister Dorothy, in later years, served in administrative and office capacities at Mount St. Vincent Convent in the Bronx, the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx and the Convent of Mary the Ocean Star in Ventnor, N.J.

In 2014, Sister Dorothy was among the first group of nuns to move into Kittay House, part of the New Jewish Home, when Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers closed.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1946 and made final vows in 1951. She held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the College of Mount St. Vincent, and a master’s in teaching mathematics from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 27 at Mount St. Vincent Convent. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
