Sister Dorothy Golden, O.P.

Sister Dorothy Golden, O.P., a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt for 62 years and a long-time child care worker, died July 24. She was 83.

A native of New York City, Sister Dorothy served in the children’s cottages at St. Dominic’s Home in Blauvelt, 1959-1972, and taught at Holy Cross School, Manhattan, 1972-1984. She ministered at the Good Counsel Cardinal Cooke Home, Spring Valley, 1988-1989, and served as a supervisor at Assumption Academy Marian Child Care Center in Emerson, N.J., 1989-2007.

She also worked in the Christmas gift shop at her order’s motherhouse in Blauvelt from 2008 until her retirement in 2012.

Sister Dorothy entered the Sisters of Dominic in 1956 and professed final vows in 1964. She held a bachelor’s of science in education from Dominican College in Blauvelt.

She is survived by her sister, Marge O’Neil.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 28 at St. Dominic’s Convent in Blauvelt. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
