Sister Elizabeth Kelliher, S.A.

Sister Elizabeth Kelliher, S.A., who served in day care, catechetical, pastoral ministries in the archdiocese and was active in social justice issues, died Aug. 16 at Lurana Health Care Residence, St. Francis Convent, at Graymoor in Garrison. She was 89.

She served at St. Jerome’s parish day nursery in the Bronx, 1957-1962, the Cardinal Spellman Center, Manhattan, 1963-1967, and Little Star Broom Day Care Center, East Harlem, 1967-1979. She served at St. Cecilia’s parish, East Harlem, 1979-1996, where she was director of parish services.

She also served in Hogansburg in upstate New York, as well as Vancouver, and Edmonton, Canada.

Born New York City, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in 1939 and professed final vows in 1946.

A brother, John, survives her. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 22 at the Atonement Sisters Motherhouse Chapel at Graymoor. Burial was in the sisters cemetery.
