Sister Helen O’Neill, O.P., who taught at Corpus Christi School in Manhattan, died Aug. 25 at St. Dominic’s Villa in Sinsinawa, Wis. She was 89.

She taught at Corpus Christi from 1949 to 1956.

She was an elementary school teacher and principal and served at colleges in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Rhode Island and Florida.

Born in East Dubuque, Ill., she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1943 and professed final vows in 1948.

She held a bachelor’s degree from Edgewood College and master’s degrees in theology and biblical studies from Providence College. She held a doctorate in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas.

She is survived by her sister Erma Schneider. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 29 at Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery.
