Sister Jane Tyler, O.P., who served for many years as a teacher in the archdiocese, died Oct. 20 at Siena Hall in Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 88.

Sister Jane was a business and computer studies teacher at Msgr. Scanlan High School, the Bronx, 1969-2006, before becoming general manager of Park Avenue Thorpe housing site, the Bronx, 2006-2011.

She also taught at St. Vito’s School, Mamaroneck, 1968-1969; St. Ann, the Bronx, 1967-1968; St. Rita’s, the Bronx, 1953-1959; and St. Brendan, the Bronx, 1950-1953. She also taught in Woodside, Queens.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1949 and made final vows in 1955. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fordham University, a master’s in business education from Hunter College and a master’s in computer science from Iona College.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Tyler.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 26 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Burial was at St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
