Sister Jeanne Schaedler, M.M.

Sister Jeanne Schaedler, M.M., who served in the missions of South Korea for almost 40 years, died May 16 at Maryknoll Residential Care IV, Ossining. She was 78.

After spending two years in language studies in Seoul, she was head technician and supervisor of the X-ray department at Maryknoll Hospital in Pusan, 1965-1972. She then spent several years as an English teacher, youth worker and hospital technician before returning to serve at the general secretariat of the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining.

She went back to Korea where she taught English at a university in Cheong Ju, 1977-1983, and ministered to college students in Kwang Ju, 1985-2000.

She returned to the United States to work in vocations, first in Franklin Park, Ill., 2000-2003, and then in Ossining, 2003-2005. She went to Chicago where she served in a parish as well as with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a hospital, 2006-2011.

She was involved with pastoral ministry at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining, from 2011 until her death.

Born in Missouri, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1954. She made her final vows in Korea in 1963.

Her brother Leroy Schaedler survives her.

Sister Jeanne left her body for scientific research. A Memorial Mass was being planned.
