Sister Margaret Holden, F.S.P., a special education teacher who served in the archdiocese and in Brooklyn, died July 25 in Yonkers. She was 73.

She was a pre-school special education teacher at St. Dominic’s Home, 1992-1997, and during that time also served part time at the Cardinal Spellman Retreat Center, 1994-1997, both in the Bronx. She also served at the Incarnation Children’s Center in Manhattan, 1988-1990, and at the Kennedy Child Study Center in New York City, 1982-1987. She taught at Sacred Heart School, Highland Falls, 1968-1969, and briefly at Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home, the Bronx.

She was a special education teacher in the Diocese of Brooklyn, 1973-1982. She served in pastoral, health care and retreat ministry in New Jersey, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1961 and professed final vows in 1968. She held a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, and master’s degrees in special education from Cardinal Stritch College and in religion and religious education from Fordham University.

Two sisters, Mary E. Martin and Florence Martorana, survive her. A Funeral Mass was offered July 31 in the chapel at Marian Woods in Hartsdale. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
