Sister Marie Cecile Godreau, P.V.M.I., who served as director of religious education at two parishes in the archdiocese, died March 3 at Marycrest Motherhouse in Monroe. She was 90.

She was the DRE at Holy Family parish, the Bronx, 2010-2012, and Holy Trinity, Mamaroneck, 1996-98.

At Marycrest, she was the librarian and worked in maintenance.
She also served in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

She retired to Marycrest in 2015.

She wrote “Anna’s Talking Hands,” a book for children about a deaf child whose family works in a circus.

Born in Lynn, Mass., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1949, transferring to the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate in 1996. She professed final vows with the Parish Visitors in 1999.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mary Rogers College at the Maryknoll Sisters in Monroe and a master’s in religious studies from St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 7 at Immaculate Conception Chapel at Marycrest Motherhouse. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery, Marycrest.
