Sister Marie John Jimenez, S.C., who taught Spanish for 28 years at the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx, died Aug. 10 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 86.

Sister Marie John taught at the College of Mount St. Vincent, 1971-1999. She taught at Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1966-1971; St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, Staten Island, 1965-1966; Blessed Sacrament High School, Manhattan, 1963-1965; St. Stephen, Manhattan, 1956-1963; and St. Athanasius, the Bronx, 1954-1956.

Following her retirement from teaching, she served as a volunteer at Mount St. Vincent Convent, the Bronx; St. Joseph Family Health Center, Yonkers; and the College of Mount St. Vincent.

Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959.

She earned three degrees in Spanish: a bachelor’s from the College of Mount St. Vincent, a master’s from Hunter College, and a doctorate in from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 14 in the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
