Sister Marion Rita Kennelly, O.P., who was an elementary school teacher and volunteer for 23 years at Visitation School, the Bronx, died Sept. 5 in Siena Hall at the motherhouse in Sparkill. She was 84.

She served at Visitation, 1987-2010. She also taught at St. Margaret of Cortona, the Bronx, 1985-1987; Sacred Heart, Manhattan, 1984-1985; Cardinal McCloskey Home, White Plains, 1971-1974; St. Anthony’s, Yonkers, 1970-1971; St. Catherine of Siena, Manhattan, 1974-1981; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 1967-1970; and Sacred Heart, Suffern, 1956-1957.

She taught and was an administrator in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Wilmington, Del.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1947 and professed final vows in 1954.

She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. John’s University and a master’s in education from Manhattan College.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 11 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
