Sister Mary Carmella Stapleton, R.D.C.

Sister Mary Carmella Stapleton, R.D.C., who taught at Preston High School in the Bronx for 46 years, died Oct. 13. She was 92.

Sister Mary Carmella served at Preston, 1957-2003. She also taught at St. Frances de Chantal, the Bronx, 1952-1957; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Elmsford, 1951-1952; Good Counsel Academy High School, White Plains, 1952; and Good Counsel Elementary School, White Plains, 1951.

Born and raised in New Jersey, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1949 and professed final vows in 1955.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and a master’s in classical languages from Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 25 in Divine Compassion Chapel, White Plains. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
