Sister Mary Casey, O.P., who taught for 19 years at St. Brendan School, the Bronx, 1972-1991, died Feb. 18 at Siena Hall in Dominican Convent, Sparkill. She was 83.
She taught at St. Brendan, 1972-1991. She also taught at Annunciation, Crestwood, 1992-1995; Immaculate Conception, the Bronx, 1991-1992; Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, 1965-1969; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 1961-1962; Sacred Heart, Suffern, 1958-1961; and St. Anthony, Nanuet, 1956-1958.
She also taught at schools in the dioceses of Brooklyn and of Syracuse.
Sister Mary most recently served as an administrative assistant and medical secretary at Dominican Convent, 1995-2016.
Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1954 and made final vows in 1961. She was formerly known as Sister Michael Marie.
She held a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, and a master’s in education from City College of New York.
A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 26 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
