Sister Maureen Alexander, S.C., who served at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers for 31 years, died Nov. 24 at New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in Manhattan. She was 80.

At St. Joseph’s, Sister Maureen served in the immunology lab, 2008-2011, and as a medical lab scientist, 1980-2008. She also was a medical lab scientist at Yonkers Professional Hospital, 1977-1980.

She taught at St. Barnabas High School, the Bronx, 1965-1974; Resurrection School, Rye, 1962-1965; and St. Brigid, Manhattan, 1958-1962.

Born in Exeter, N.H., she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1955 and professed final vows in 1963. She was formerly known as Sister Thomas Marietta.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and held New York state certification in medical technology.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 28 in the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room. Her cremated remains were to be buried at a later date in Mount St. Vincent Cemetery.
