Sister Placid Zinicola, C.S.JB., who taught and served as vice principal for many years at St. John Villa Academy, Staten Island, died Aug. 22 at St. John’s Convent, Purchase. She was 93.

She taught at St. John Villa, the school she had attended as a girl, from 1938 until 1962. After teaching in New Jersey at St. John’s Academy, Gladstone, and Alphonsus College, Wood-cliff Lake, she returned to St. John Villa to serve as vice principal from 1974 to 1993. She then continued to work in the school office and was active in her congregation until 2011, when she retired to Mount St. John Convent, Purchase.

Born on Staten Island, she entered the Sisters of St. John the Baptist in 1937 and professed her final vows in 1943. She held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seton Hall University.

A sister, Louise Oates, survives her. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 23 at Mount St. John Convent Chapel. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
