Sister Rita McGetrick, C.N.D.

Sister Rita McGetrick, C.N.D., a teacher at St. Columba School in Manhattan for eight years, died June 10 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 95.

She taught at St. Columba’s, 1948-1956, and was superior and principal of St. Jean Baptiste High School, 1966-1969, also Manhattan. She also served in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Ohio, Massachusetts and Illinois.

Born in Providence, R.I., she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1945 and professed final vows in 1953. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College and a master’s from Columbia University.

Her sister, Mary Smith, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 15 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury, Conn.
