Sister Rosemary Garrity, M.M.

Sister Rosemary Garrity, M.M., who was a teacher and did pastoral work in Mexico for 32 years, died Sept. 9 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 94.

Sister Rosemary served in Mexico, 1994-2001, 1974-1982 and 1951-1968. She also served in Guatemala and worked in various roles at Maryknoll until her retirement in 2010.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in community organization from Mary Rogers College, Maryknoll, and a master’s in social service from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

Her sister, Rita Mallon, survives her.

Sister Rosemary donated her body to science. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Sept. 19 in Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center.
