Sister Sheila Devlin, R.S.H.M.

Sister Sheila Devlin, R.S.H.M., who taught in the archdiocese and was a missioner in Colombia, died Jan. 27 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 78.

She taught at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Manhattan, from 1957 to 1965, when she was missioned to Colegio Marymount in Barcelona, Colombia. She taught there until 1968, when she returned to the Academy of the Sacred Heart where she taught for another decade. She then taught 15 years in the New York public school system until 1993, when she retired and moved to Marymount Convent.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1955 and professed final vows in 1962. She held a bachelor’s degree in history from Marymount College, master’s degrees in history from Manhattan College and in special education from Lehman College.

A brother, Father James Devlin, of the Diocese of Brooklyn, and a sister, Mary, survive her. A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 30 at Marymount Convent. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
