Sister Virginia Mohr, O.P., who served as a nurse in Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan, died July 9 at the Wartburg, Mount Vernon. She was 86.

She served as a nurse with the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service, in Ossining, 1971-1975, in the Bronx, 1975-1977 and 1979-1981, and in Harlem, 1977-1979.

She also served in Massachusetts, Ohio, Minnesota and Colorado, 1955-1971. After continuing as a nurse in the Philippines, 1981-1983, she served in Ohio until her retirement at the Newburgh Center of Hope in 2007.

Born in Newark, Ohio, she entered the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, which is now part of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, in 1954 and made her final vows in 1958.

She received a RN from Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, a bachelor’s in public health nursing from the University of Dayton, and a certificate in public health nursing from Columbia University.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 14 at the Ossining Center of Hope. Her remains were cremated.
