Maggie Murray became the first St. Barnabas High School athlete in more than 30 years to score her 1,000th point when she finished with 20 points in a 59-53 over Aquinas High School on Feb. 4.

“It was a rush of emotions,’’ Maggie said following the game. “There is no other feeling like the one you get when the entire crowd is chanting your name. It was a great achievement, but I never really planned on it, I just love the game. I couldn’t have gotten here without the support and encouragement of my previous and current teammates and all my coaches. It is certainly something I will always remember.

“Thank you to Good Counsel and St. Barnabas for allowing me to thrive both athletically and academically.”

Maggie transferred to St. Barnabas in the Bronx for her senior year after Good Counsel Academy, which was in White Plains, closed in 2015. She was presented a signed ball from her coaches and teammates at St. Barnabas and a signed chair from Good Counsel Academy.

She is the first player to reach 1,000 points at St. Barnabas since Eileen McGuire, a 1984 graduate who went to play at Canisius College in Buffalo.

“Maggie is one of those rare players who promotes the concept of team and is humble in her success,” St. Barnabas coach Margaret Collins O’Brien said. “It’s gratifying to coach an individual with her talents and I am delighted for her in reaching this milestone.”
