St. Teresa, Sacred Heart Lead CYO Basketball Champions

St. Teresa and Sacred Heart each returned to Staten Island with two CYO archdiocesan basketball championships March 19.

Sacred Heart captured the fifth- and sixth-grade girls’ crowns at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, the site of the girls’ games.

St. Teresa claimed the seventh-grade girls’ title in New Rochelle and the fifth-grade boys’ championship at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, where the boys’ games were played.

Eighth-grade girls – St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie, beat St. Clare, Staten Island, 39-24, behind Ava Learn’s 16 points. For St. Clare, Daniella DeBiase had eight points.

Seventh-grade girls – Skye Owen scored 15 points as St. Teresa, Staten Island, defeated St. Paul, Valley Cottage, 48-35. St. Paul’s Paulina Paris had 19 points.

Sixth-grade girls – Sacred Heart, Staten Island, edged St. Stephen, Warwick, 41-37, led by Sara Moschella’s 13 points. Megan Desrats scored 15 points for St. Stephen.

Fifth-grade girls – Olivia Schmitt had 15 points as Sacred Heart, Staten Island, beat St. Catharine, Blauvelt, 39-10. For St. Catharine, Kate Collins had six points.

Fourth-grade girls – Jane Brennan’s 12 points led St. Mary of the Assumption, Katonah, to a 20-15 win over St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville. For St. Gregory, Olivia Castaldo had four points.

Third-grade girls – St. Paul, Valley Cottage, was an 18-3 winner over St. Matthew-Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hastings-on-Hudson. Lena Most scored eight points for St. Paul's.

Eighth-grade boys – Our Lady of Good Counsel, Staten Island, nipped St. Paul, Valley Cottage, 58-55, behind Joe Fiumefreddo’s 17 points. Jahki Parrinello finished with 19 points for St. Paul.

Seventh-grade boys – John Annicelli’s 16 points led St. Patrick, Bedford, to a 48-34 victory over St. Catharine, Blauvelt. Jake Walker paced St. Catharine with 14 points.

Sixth-grade boys – Ajani Sheppard scored 14 points as St. Raymond, Bronx, defeated Our Lady of Sacred Heart, Tappan, 45-24. For Our Lady of Sacred Heart, Ryan Bailey and David Alexandre each had eight points.

Fifth-grade boys – St. Teresa, Staten Island, beat St. Francis of Assisi, West Nyack, 29-12, behind Maddox LaPierre’s five points. Matt Ricardi scored six points for St. Francis.

Fourth-grade boys – Joseph Castaldo scored 14 points as St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, defeated Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, 41-27. Brian Hsu and Rowan Introzzi had 10 points apiece for Immaculate Conception.

Third-grade boys – St. Gregory, Harrison, won 28-13 over St. Catharine, Blauvelt. St. Gregory’s Matthew McCoy finished with 10 points, and Jack Piccione led St. Catharine with six points.
