Seniors at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains and School of the Holy Child in Rye have been named Students of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley chapter. Brian Dervin of Archbishop Stepinac and Hannah Cleary of School of the Holy Child earned the honor for raising more than $35,000 for LLS in a seven-week campaign.

During a recent awards ceremony at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, each was granted a $2,500 college scholarship for their combined effort. They were among eight area high school teams that cumulatively raised $125,000 for LLS.

“I love reaching out to my community to find new ways to help others,” said Brian, who was inspired by observing a family friend raise funds for LLS in memory of her sister who recently died of blood cancer.

Hannah participated in memory of her grandmother who died 20 years ago from leukemia. “I want to do something to keep my grandmother’s spirit alive,” Hannah said.
