Two Parish Administrators Named; Msgr. Filacchione to Head Prison Apostolate

Two priests have been appointed as administrators of parishes and another has been named director of the archdiocese’s Prison Apostolate, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

Father Marek Rudecki, S.A.C., became administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Yonkers, effective Sept. 1, and Father Joseph Tyrrell became temporary administrator of St. Patrick’s, Highland Mills, effective Aug. 1.

Msgr. Marc Filacchione was named director of the archdiocese’s Prison Apostolate, effective July 1, in addition to his duties as director of the Hospital Apostolate.

Father Rudecki served most recently as parochial vicar of St. Aloysius parish in Ridgewood, Queens, in the Diocese of Brooklyn since 2004. He also served as parochial vicar of two parishes in Brooklyn, from 2001 to 2004. He earlier was a pastor in his native Poland, and also served as a missioner to Mexico, 1997-2001. A native of Warsaw, Poland, he was ordained for the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers) in 1981.

Father Tyrrell served most recently as pastor of St. Peter’s-Our Lady of the Rosary parish in Lower Manhattan. He was pastor of St. Peter’s, 2012-2015. He was administrator of Our Lady of Lourdes, Manhattan, 2000-2003. He served as parochial vicar in Manhattan at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 2008-2012, where he also was master of ceremonies; Epiphany, 2003-2008; and Notre Dame, 1989-1993. He also was parochial vicar of St. Philip Neri, 1998-2000, and St. Raymond’s, 1994-1998, both in the Bronx, and St. Mary’s, Katonah, 1993-1994. He was ordained in 1989.

Msgr. Filacchione had served as administrator of Our Lady of Victory-St. Andrew parish in Lower Manhattan since last year. He was pastor of Our Lady of Victory, 2004-2015, and St. Michael’s, Manhattan, 1992-2004, where he earlier was administrator for three years. He has served as director of the Hospital Apostolate since 1992. He has served as a New York City Fire Department chaplain since 1995. He was a parochial vicar at Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 1980-1989, and was a summer secretary to Cardinal John O’Connor in 1989. He was ordained in 1980 and named a monsignor in 1995.
