Iona Going ‘Greener’ to Save Energy, Money
Iona College and Cenergistic teamed up to reduce the consumption of oil, natural gas, water and electricity on the campus in New Rochelle that will save the college more than $2.5 million in energy costs over the next five years and cut energy consumption by 20 percent.
Cenergistic is a Dallas-based company of energy-efficiency experts that works with universities, school districts, municipalities and health-care facilities across the country. The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Cenergistic as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for 10 consecutive years.
“The partnership complements Iona’s ongoing efforts to get greener by the day,” said Carl Procario-Foley, chair of Iona’s committee on environmental sustainability.
Iona uses LED lighting in its newly constructed buildings on campus, programmable thermostats and eco-efficient bathroom fixtures, and recycles its paper and non-toxic cleaners.

Dr. Bell to Lead St. John’s School of Education
David Bell, Ed.D., became the dean of the School of Education at St. John’s University in Queens, effective Aug. 1, the university announced.
Dr. Bell came to St. John’s from West Chester University in Pennsylvania, where he was associate dean for curriculum and accreditation in the College of Education and Social Work. He also served as associate dean of St. Xavier University in Chicago, instructional leader for the Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois state regional evaluator for Chicago Public Schools and lead coach for the implementation of the Illinois Response to Intervention at Archdiocese of Chicago schools.

Number of Applicants Reaches New High for Seton Hall
Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., announced a record has been set for a fifth consecutive year as more than 23,000 prospective students completed applications for the Class of 2023. The number of applicants to Seton Hall has risen 40 percent over the last three years.
A record of more than 1,615 freshmen were registered to start the school year, breaking the mark of 1,524 set last year. The Class of 2023 also had the highest average SAT score, 1,235, and ACT score, 26.5, in school history.
