Daniel Prial, Served in U.S. Army, National Guard

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Daniel Gregory Prial, who was raised in Warwick where he attended St. Stephen-St. Edward School, died in a helicopter training mission accident in the Rochester suburb of Mendon. He was 30.

Prial joined the New York Army National Guard in 2020 after attending the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, 2008-2012, and serving as a helicopter pilot in the 82nd Airborne Division deployed to Afghanistan, 2014-2015.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff Jan. 21 to honor the three members of the New York Army National Guard who died in the helicopter crash.

Born at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, Prial graduated from Warwick High School where he was a member of the cross country and track teams. 

A fan of the New York Mets and New York Jets, he volunteered on the Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries’ Teen Advisory Council in Garrison before serving his country in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his parents, Gregory and Anne Prial; siblings Becky Fullam, Terence Prial, Brigid Prial, and Jennie Prial; maternal grandparents Thomas and Florence Leavy; and paternal grandparents Philip and Helen Prial, survive him.
