Michael Deegan, superintendent of schools for the archdiocese,  was honored in October by Iona College as a recipient of the Brother Arthur A. Loftus Award for Outstanding Achievement. The award “recognizes and honors Ionians who have brought acclaim to the College by brilliant accomplishments in their chosen careers.” Dating to 1965, the award perpetuates the memory of Iona’s second president, Brother Loftus, who was also on the original faculty of the college. Deegan, a 1975 alumnus of Iona, was one of four recipients of the Loftus Award, which was conferred during the college’s Homecoming and Reunion weekend. Deegan said he accepted the award on behalf of school leaders and pastors of the archdiocese.
