East Harlem Mount Carmel Shrine Marks 135th Feast

The Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on East 116th Street in East Harlem is planning an Eastern Byzantine Liturgy as part of its July celebrations commemorating the 135th annual feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The liturgy will be celebrated Sunday, July 7, at 5 p.m.

The priests serving the shrine are members of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, commonly known as Pallottines. Their founder, St. Vincent Pallotti, was a confessor to the Eastern Rite colleges in Rome.

Also planned is a trilingual novena at 7:30 p.m. each day in French/Creole, July 6-8, Spanish, July 9-11, and English, July 12-14. A special 1,000 Hail Mary devotion will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 13. A Solemn Extraordinary Rite Midnight Mass of Our Lady will be offered at midnight Monday, July 15. Italian Masses will be celebrated at 9 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday, July 11 to 13.

On Our Lady of Mount Carmel feast day, Tuesday, July 16, hourly Masses will be offered from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. A 10 a.m. Mass on July 16 will be followed by a grand procession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel outside the church.
