Father Gerard J. DiSenso

Father Gerard J. DiSenso, pastor emeritus of Holy Name of Jesus parish in Otisville, died June 9. He was 93.

Father DiSenso was pastor of Holy Name of Jesus from 1995 until his retirement in 1998, and also was pastor of St. Joseph’s, Yorkville, in Manhattan, 1983-1995.

He also served as parochial vicar of St. Thomas More, Manhattan, 1976-1983; Most Holy Trinity, Mamaroneck, 1974-1976; Holy Family, the Bronx, 1969-1974; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Poughkeepsie, 1960-1969; St. Lucy’s, the Bronx, 1955; and St. Lucy’s, Manhattan, 1953-1954. 

He served as chaplain of Elizabeth Seton School, Yonkers, 1955-1960, and New York Hospital, 1954-1955.

Cardianl Dolan was to offer the Funeral Mass June 16 in the Chapel of the John Cardinal O’Connor Pavilion, Riverdale.

Born in New York City, Father DiSenso studied at Cathedral College and St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, before being ordained by Cardinal Francis Spellman in 1953. He earned a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle.

Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
