Father Kazimierz Kowalski

Father Kazimierz Kowalski, who served as pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Manhattan for 12 years, died Oct. 4. He was 69.

Father Kowalski was at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 2003-2015, before serving most recently at St. Agnes parish in Manhattan.

Father Kowalski also was parochial vicar of St. Agnes, Manhattan, 1996-2003; Blessed Sacrament, New Rochelle, 1993-1995; and St. Joseph’s, Yorkville, Manhattan, 1991-1993. He was administrator of St. Francis of Assisi, Newburgh, 1995-1996.

Born in Manhattan, he was baptized a Catholic and then attended Lutheran schools when his family moved to Queens and received other sacraments through the Lutheran church. He served as a Lutheran minister on Long Island and in Milwaukee.

He was received back into the Catholic Church in 1987 before studying for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. He was ordained by Cardinal John O’Connor at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1991.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia University, Chicago; a master’s of divinity degree from Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago; and a master’s degree in theology from St. Joseph’s Seminary.
