Father Michael E. Sehler, S.J.

Father Michael E. Sehler, S.J., who taught English and Modern Languages at Loyola School in Manhattan for 24 years, died May 20. He was 78.

Father Sehler was at Loyola School, 1996-2020. He also taught at Fordham Prep, the Bronx, 1984-1995, and Xavier High School, Manhattan, 1972-1983. 

He also served in Point Lookout, and in Maryland and Massachusetts.

Born in Washington, D.C., he entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1960 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1973.

He studied for the priesthood at Loyola Seminary, Shrub Oak, and Woodstock College, Manhattan. He also held master’s degrees from New York University and Fordham University.

His brother, Thomas, and sister, Cathy Marciano, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated June 2 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Point Lookout. Burial was in the Jesuit Cemetery, Wernersville, Pa.
