Father Vincent Zuliani, S.D.B., a former director of the Salesian Provincial House in New Rochelle and of two Salesian high schools, died Dec. 30 in his room at the Marian Shrine in Stony Point. He was 84.

He served as director of the provincial house from 1999 to 2005, at times using his language skills to translate Salesian works from Italian to English. He also taught Latin, Greek and philosophy at Don Bosco College in Newton, N.J., from 1949 until 1975, except for 1952-1956, when he studied theology in Turin and received a licentiate in sacred theology.

He served as director of Don Bosco Technical High School in Paterson, N.J., 1975-1981, and at a Salesian high school in Boston, 1984-1989. He also served at parishes in New Jersey.

Born in Italy, he entered the Salesian seminary at Ivrea in Piedmont in 1938 and professed final vows in 1943. He came to the United States in 1949 and was ordained in 1956. He held a doctorate in philosophy from the Salesian Pontifical Atheneum and a master’s degree in classical languages from Fordham University.

A brother, Gino, survives him. A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 3 in the chapel of the Marian Shrine. Burial was in Italy.
