Ignacio Machado Sr.

Ignacio Machado Sr., husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died March 8 at his home in Bay Shore, L.I. He was 87.

He was the father of Catholic New York reporter Armando Machado.

Mr. Machado was the youngest of four children in Bocas del Toro, Panama, immigrating to the United States in 1963 and settling in Manhattan, and later lived in the Bronx and in Bay Shore. He and his wife Ruby raised three children, Ignacio Jr., Armando and Amada. The family parish is St. Anne’s in Brentwood.

A real estate agent for many years in Bay Shore and the Bronx, he retired in his mid-70s, having worked for Century 21 and Re/Max. In the Bronx, he was a life insurance agent for John Hancock and worked as a tailor. In his young adult years, he was a tailor in Colón, Panama.

In addition to his wife and adult children, survivors include his sister Isabel, 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was offered March 17 at St. Anne’s Church. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore.
