The Patricia and Cornelius J. Higgins '62 Engineering and Science Center, which opened this year, was formally dedicated Oct. 21 to serve engineering and science students at Manhattan College in the Bronx’s Riverdale section.
The 30,000-square-foot academic facility is named after Patricia Higgins, Ph.D., and Cornelius (Neil) Higgins, Ph.D., who provided a $5 million leadership gift. Cornelius Higgins is a 1962 Manhattan College graduate.
The Higgins Center and a refurbished Leo Hall are connected structures providing a total of 140,000 square feet of academic space for engineering and science students. The Higgins Center, a three-story building that welcomes students and faculty with a grand atrium, features 14 ultramodern laboratories to support teaching and research as well as space for collaborative learning and interdisciplinary partnerships among students and faculty.
“The Higgins Engineering and Science Center is a magnificent, state-of-the-art addition to our facilities,” said Brennan O’Donnell, president of Manhattan College, at the Higgins Center groundbreaking in April 2018. “This is the first step in a comprehensive program of renewal of our labs and classrooms on South Campus.”
The Higgins Center received a gold rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the United States Green Building Council in 2021.
