Sister Ann Rose Connell, S.C., who served as a guidance counselor for 18 years at Blessed Sacrament/St. Gabriel High School in New Rochelle, died Oct. 30 at Kittay Senior Apartments in the Bronx. She was 84.

Sister Ann Rose was at Blessed Sacrament/St. Gabriel, 1985-2003.

She was director of religious education at Sacred Heart parish, Mount Vernon, 1984-1985, and religious education coordinator at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Elmsford, 1980-1984. She earlier taught at Resurrection School, Rye; St. Paul, Manhattan, St. Peter-St. Paul, Staten Island; Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island; and St. Athanasius, the Bronx.

For four years ending in 2008, she was a volunteer driver for the Mary the Queen Convent, Yonkers.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1955 and made final vows in 1963. She was formerly known as Sister John Marita.

She held a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent, and a master’s in pastoral ministry from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn.

Her sister, Joan Connell Penny, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 6 at Mount St. Vincent Convent in the Bronx. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
