Sister Annette Bate, O.P.

Sister Annette Bate, O.P., who taught in the archdiocese and later served as a therapist, died Nov. 29 in Siena Hall Infirmary at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 82.

She was a therapist at New Beginnings, the Bronx, 1992-2007; director of Siena Counseling Service, the Bronx, 1988-1992 and co-director, Family Consultation Service, the Bronx, 1983-1988.

She taught in the Bronx at Aquinas High School, 1970-1983, St. Helena School, 1967-1970, and Our Lady of Grace School, 1958-1960; and at Sacred Heart School, Suffern, 1960-1963.

She served in child care at St. Agnes Home and School, Sparkill, 1957-1958.

She also served in the Diocese of Syracuse.

She retired to Dominican Convent, Sparkill, in 2016.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1955 and professed final vows in 1962.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and a master’s in guidance/counseling and a professional diploma in counseling education from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 5 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Interment was at St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
