Sister Bernadette Filter, C.R., a former teacher in the archdiocese, died Dec. 19. She was 89.

She taught at Maria Regina High School, Hartsdale; St. Casimir School, Yonkers; St. Clemens Mary, Manhattan; and St. Joseph School, Poughkeepsie.

She also served in Schenectady and in Connecticut, Illinois and Florida.

She became a resident of Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in March.

Born in New York City, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection in 1944 and made final vows in 1953.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a master’s in religious studies from Manhattan College.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 21 at the Sisters of the Resurrection Provincialate Chapel in Castleton. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Castleton.
