Sister James David McDonough, O.P., a longtime school teacher and administrator, died Aug. 25 in Siena Hall at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 95.

Sister James David’s tenure as an educator included serving as coordinator of Non-Public Schools for the New York City Board of Education, 1977-2003. She was principal of St. Rose of Lima School in Manhattan, 1970-1977. She taught in the Bronx at St. Joseph, 1967-1968; St. Martin of Tours, 1949-1950; and St. John Chrysostom, 1946-1948. She also served at schools in Hicksville, Brooklyn, Norwich and St. Louis.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1944 and made final vows in 1951. She held a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Manhattan College and a master’s in school administration from St. John’s University.

She is survived by her sister Irene Moyna and her brother Paul.
Funeral arrangements were private. Burial was at St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
