Sister Joan Marie Peltier, M.M., who served as Maryknoll regional superior of the Bolivia-Peru Region for 14 years, died Nov. 10 at Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, four days after her 100th birthday.

Sister Joan Marie also did pastoral work and religious education in Bolivia, Peru, Texas, Illinois and California from the early 1940s to the mid-1990s.

For three years ending in 1975, she served at Maryknoll in Ossining as the food service liaison, and volunteered in the congregational research department.

In 1997, Sister Joan Marie returned to the United States from South America, staying at the Maryknoll House in West Haven, Conn., and later at the sisters’ house in Yonkers. She was a volunteer for the Maryknoll Affiliates Subway Chapter in Manhattan. She retired in 2009.

Born in Milwaukee, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1937 and made final vows in 1943. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Maryknoll Teachers College. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Kateri.

She is survived by four siblings, Mary Ann, Geraldine, Thomas and John. A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 15 at Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was at Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery.
