Sister Mary Damian Gardner, S.C., who taught third grade for 21 years at St. Mary School on Staten Island, died July 24 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 90.

She was at St. Mary, 1964-1985. She served in auxiliary services at Convent of Mary the Queen, Yonkers, 1994-2014; and taught at St. Peter School, Poughkeepsie, 1985-1994; St. Gabriel, New Rochelle, 1961-1963; and St. Peter School, Staten Island, 1953-1961. She also served in Brooklyn.

Born in Hawthorne, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1950 and professed her final vows in 1958.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 28 in St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
