Sister Maryellen Keefe, O.S.U., who taught for eight years at Preston High School in the Bronx, died April 12 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 85.

Sister Maryellen was at Preston, 1978-1986. She also taught at SUNY Maritime, the Bronx, 2012-2021; Iona College, New Rochelle, 1994-2002; Iona Prep, New Rochelle, 1986-1989; Our Lady of Victory Academy, Dobbs Ferry, 1977-1978; and the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, the Bronx, 1968-1970 and 1976-1977.

She also served in Massachusetts, Delaware and Maryland.

Born in New York City, she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1957 and professed final vows in 1964.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of New Rochelle; a master’s in English from Fordham University, the Bronx; and a doctorate in English literature from the University of Delaware, Newark, Del.

Her brother, John, and her sister, Veronica, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 19 in the Ursuline Province Center, New Rochelle. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
