Sister Nora Hearty, S.C., who served for 40 years as a teacher and administrative assistant in schools, died March 6 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 87.

Sister Nora was an administrative assistant at Our Lady of Victory Academy, Dobbs Ferry, 1985-1994, and a secretary at Holy Trinity School, Mamaroneck, 1979-1985. She taught at Elizabeth Seton Academy, Yonkers, 1973-1979; Visitation School, the Bronx, 1971-1973; Sacred Heart, Staten Island, 1965-1971; St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 1964-1965; St. Joseph Academy, Manhattan, 1960-1964; St. Raymond Elementary School, the Bronx, 1955-1960; and Resurrection, Rye, 1954-1955.

She volunteered in the religious education program of St. Joseph parish, Yonkers, 2000-2015, and was secretary in the Marist Brothers Provincial Office, Pelham, 1994-2000.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959.

The graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and a master’s in elementary education from Richmond College, Staten Island.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 12 in the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room, the Bronx. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
