Sister Patricia Powers, O.P., who taught at Corpus Christi School in Manhattan, died June 5 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis. She was 96.

She taught at Corpus Christi School in Manhattan, 1954-1956. She also served in Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, California and Florida.

As an educator, she taught for 25 years, was a principal for 12 years and tutored migrant workers for four years. She served in parish ministry for eight years, religious education for nine years, as chaplain for two years and support staff for 20 years.

Born in Chicago, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1942 and professed final vows in 1947. She was formerly known as Sister Jordan.

She earned a master’s of education in administration and supervision from Marquette University in Milwaukee and a bachelor’s in education from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated June 11 at the Dominican motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wis. Burial was at the motherhouse cemetery.
