Sister Rose Corde McCormick, M.M., who was a missioner to Japan for 14 years, died July 31 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 98.

Sister Rose Corde was in Japan, 1971-1976 and 1959-1968, where she taught English and worked as a parish minister. She also served at Maryknoll in Ossining, Hawaii, Micronesia and Mexico.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she worked for the New England Telephone Company for 14 years before entering the Maryknoll Sisters Novitiate in 1953 and professing final vows in 1962.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Mary Rogers College at Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 9 in Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery in Ossining.
